THE FAMILIES WALKED IN WITH A CHILD FIGHTING CANCER. TOBY KEITH MADE SURE THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PLACE THEY CALLED HOME. In January 2014, the Toby Keith Foundation opened OK Kids Korral in Oklahoma City — a home for children receiving cancer treatment and the families who had to travel with them. The cost to stay was simple: nothing. There are 12 private suites, a kitchen, laundry room, play areas, a game room and even a movie theater. Families could stay close to the hospitals without adding another hotel bill to everything they were already carrying. In 2021 alone, the Korral welcomed 832 family visits and provided 2,567 nights of free lodging. The foundation estimated those families saved more than half a million dollars that year. Toby’s foundation had been helping children with cancer since 2006. The biggest gift wasn’t a concert or a check handed out onstage. It was giving parents one less bill while they tried to get their child home.
